The ZigBee Project

Automating your home, one sensor at a time

Project Status/Plan

This is our project plan and progress.

Zigbee network and dev platform:

  1. Find a micro controller - Done Apr 27
  2. Find Zigbee stacks/antennas/components - Done Apr 27
  3. Set up a basic Zigbee Network using the Digi Xbee Starter kit and Digi Xbee Development kit 2.5 - Done with the Starter Kit May 11
  4. Investigate if and what Zigbee stacks are available for use in “non commercial” applications and/or available as open source - Done May 14
  5. Try to find a compiler that works on Mac OS X - Ended May 12, none existent.
  6. Porting Compiler for Mac OS X - Work started May 12
  7. Create simple X-CTU for Mac - Work started May 29
  8. Getting our own custom firmware to work (dependent on Compiler) - Work started May 11
  9. Order Funnels - Received May 26
  10. Look into Freaklabs stack

Temperature control:

  1. Finding suitable temperature sensors – Done Apr 27
  2. Create a simple working prototype that measures temperature connected via USB to computer – Done May 5
  3. Replace USB with Zigbee as transport mechanism for measuring temperature
  4. Create a working network of Sensors
  5. Create a “tool” to visualize and analyse the data
  6. Define how (based on the sensor system) you would be able to control the heating and cooling

Light Control:

  1. Research LED
  2. Find Suppliers/products
  3. Create Prototype
